tips for ielts

Listening section needs keen attention of the candidate. Try to scan the questions before the recording starts and anticipate the answers, write them down in pencil on the question booklet. Change them, if required when the recording plays. Please do not assume that you can write answers after the recording stops. This will never happen since you will forget the answers after the recording.

Reading section needs only careful reading. Some questions may be tricky, so do not assume anything. All answers should be based on the passage given.

Writing needs a little bit of actual writing because we all are now used to typing on the computer and hence the speed and word count will come only with practice in a day or two.

Please do not worry about the speaking test. This will happen in a very natural and encouraging environment. Hence be confident, use English language for daily use as much as possible.

There is no need to go for IELTS coaching classes. Training available on Internet is sufficient. Use IELTS-Blog site as much as possible.

Good luck to all candidates and thanks to IELTS-Blog.com”

These are the techniques that I used:

Listening

I listen to the radio whenever I can. On the radio, the pace of talking is much faster than in an IELTS listening recording. So when you can understand what people are saying on the air, I am sure IELTS listening wouldn’t be too hard for you. I also pay my full attention when listening to native English speaking friends. When getting involved in a daily conversation with native speaker, you get a better idea of the local way of saying different things.

Reading

What I did was to have loads of practice with mock exams. Every now and then I would read some articles if they interest me, but I am not that into reading. My advice of regular reading habit is to start with something that you indeed have interest in. If you force yourself to read articles that you actually think are boring, you might find it hard to persist. For those who worry about the amount of vocabulary, I personally think that the technique of skim reading can get you a higher score.

Writing

I spent most of my time getting this component right. I wrote an essay every two days and got it revised by my girlfriend. After revision, I made sure that I understand what can be improved. It would be the best if you take down notes every time, but sometimes I get lazy and skip this part.

Speaking

Try to talk to English speakers more often every day. You really have to be brave and express your thoughts, otherwise there won’t be any improvement. Another thing I tried was to say the same thing in different ways. The differences between 6 and 7 is the level of explanation. Every time you talk about one thing, think about a better way to describe it. That’s the main differences between talking and communicating.

In general, not everyone needs a perfect score. If you’re serious about achieving your ideal result, it’s worth knowing how far away you are from it. Focus on your weakness first. For me this means to get my speaking right instead of reading lots of articles, which might be unnecessary when it comes to improvement.

I think that’s it. It’s also advisable to be confident in yourself and have a firm belief that English will only be a piece of cake for you!”

Sample Essay Band 6.0_Academic

BAND 6.0
In today's modern world, computers are needed every day. Around the world, children use computers from the time they are little. It's true that children should have fun when they are young; however, in my opinion, a child who knows how to use the computer will be more successful in the future. My reasons for this view are personal, academic and professional.
From a personal point of view, computers can help young people to learn more about the world. For example, some children use the Internet to find information on different subjects. In this way, they learn to find answers by themselves. By using the computer when they are little, children feel more comfortable around computers. They also know how to use the computer for different reasons.
From an academic viewpoint, children have to learn how to use this new invention.  For instance,  when I was in college, many students used to bring their laptops to class. They used to take notes, do research and share information. They wrote their essays, made presentations and created useful lists. Children who can use the computer when they are young have more confidence than other children.
From a professional perspective, the computer is found in every kind of office. Today, employers will still hire people who cannot use computers and give them computer training. But tomorrow, companies will expect people to have these skills already. As a result, by encouraging children to use the computer for a short time every day, parents are preparing their children for future jobs.
In conclusion, it is clear that computers are now a part of our regular life. Children who can use computers easily and confidently will do better in the future.

Sample Essay Band 8_ACADEMIC

BAND 8.0
Using the computer every day can have more negative than positive effects on children. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
In today's modern world, computers are an essential part of everyday life. Around the globe, children often use computers from a very young age. Although it is important for children to participate in various well-balanced activities, in my opinion, children who use the computer daily are actually developing a critical skill for future success. The bases for my views are personal, academic, and professional.
From a personal point of view, computers are an invaluable resource to help young people explore the world around them. For example, children who use Internet to satisfy their curiosity about diverse topics are already becoming independent learners. No child with a computer is ever bored! By starting early in their lives, children feel totally at ease around computers; they are also able to take advantage of the wide range of services computers provide.
From an academic viewpoint, children have no choice but to master this technological invention. For instance, when I was in university, students brought their laptops to class to take notes, do research and exchange information. They wrote assignments, created presentations and developed databases. Children who build early confidence and experience in these abilities are at a distinct advantage over those who have not.
From a professional perspective, the computer has found a permanent place in the workplace. Today, employers still pay to provide computer training to their employees. Tomorrow, corporations will expect prospective job applicants to already possess these critical job skills. Consequently, parents who encourage their child to use the computer for a reasonable period of time daily are in fact investing in the child's future career.
In conclusion, there is no doubt that the computer as a technological tool is here to stay. The sooner children become computer-literate, the better for many aspects of their future lives.

Example Sample Essay Band SCore for IELTS

BAND 9.0
Topic: The government should control the amount of violence in films and on television in order to decrease violent crimes in society. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It has been suggested that the government should control the amount of violence in films and on television in order to decrease the rate of violent crimes in society.  It would certainly be easy to garner support for such a move, but solely adapting such a policy will do little to effect social change.
The question has often been raised as to what extent media violence actually influences behavior.  One can readily recount incidences of a child or young person viewing some violent behavior in a movie or on television and then trying to reproduce that situation in real life.  It is hard to estimate the amount of violence which can be traced back to television shows or movies but the existence of such incidences is undeniable.  Logically, removing this violent content should directly reduce the incidence of such violence but this relationship between violent media content and violent behavior is not so simple.
While much has been recorded of young people imitating media violence, little has been directed to the influence of sad violence on those who are able to differentiate the imaginary situations in movies and on television from reality. If one were to find no similar relationship it could be immediately surmised that the most direct solution is increased supervision of young people, and not the modification of media content.  The degree to which people are influenced by what they see in the media depends directly on how responsibly they are educated about the relationship of fiction and reality.
Watching comedies does not transform one into a comedian, and watching violent movies does not directly make one violent. Rather than taking crude half measures to repair complex social problems, more focus must be placed on the nature of interpersonal relationships, social responsibility and personal accountability.
